Welcome
to blandfordphotography.com, home of Mid-Michigan photographer Dave
Blandford. My photographic interests include nature, black &
white, macro, conservation, landscapes, weddings,
portraits, and
especially
wildlife. I have been taking photos for several years and spend
as much time shooting as I can. I shoot 100% digitally and I take great care and pride in my work from the shot to the development of my photos in my digital darkroom. I believe that every photograph tells a story and that the beauty of the image is unique and can not be replicated. That is why wildlife photography is especially appealing to me. I like the unpredictabilty of the subject as well as the varying environments. Sometimes you find the perfect subject only to have the weather or lighting change instantaneously. I like the sense of the unknown and I think it translates well into all of my photography. The difference between getting a good shot and a great shot can be a fraction of a second and what is learned in the field can easily be translated to a studio. In taking pictures of wildlife and the habitat that surrounds it, I hope that my images can evoke feelings within the viewer, encouraging conservation of all species for future generations. Conservation is critical and each of us can play a part. I grew up about two hours from Yellowstone National Park, and family trips to view it has shaped the way I feel about the world. When photographing people I find that candid shots lend themselves to a far greater range of emotion than posed shots. People tend to overact when you ask them to say cheese. I use a journalistic approach to photography to capture the essence of my surroundings. I have had the fortune to travel frequently with my wife Virginia and it has allowed me to capture a wide range of subjects from the beauty that is the Michigan wetland to the rugged expanse of the desert southwest.
